Dorm Bedding for Girls: Simple and Easy

If you are getting ready to send someone off to college for the first time, or are going yourself, the preparations can be intimidating, not to mention the emotions. There are so many things to consider: supplies for your room, electronics, clothes, books; you name it. You want to have what is needed, as well as what looks nice. After all, your dorm room is going to be your home-away-from-home for quite a while, and you want it to be attractive as well as comfortable. It's easy to overcompensate, and bring too much stuff. But dorm rooms just aren't that big, so you have to be careful about what you end up bringing. It might be best to start with the basics. Dorm rooms are essentially for sleeping and studying in. (Well, OK, socializing is important too.)

TEDXBRIXTON TEAMS: The guys behind the finance

We wouldn’t be able to put on such an incredible event if it wasn’t for the help of our sponsorship team. These guys boast a unique ability for sourcing the most suitable supporters to raise the profile of TEDxBrixton. Due to their strong experience in fundraising, they create and manage the budget, raise money from sponsors and oversee our partnerships program and live streaming venues. Their work is vital to our success and development.

2. What’s your favourite thing to do in Brixton? I spend pretty much every day in Brixton and still love just walking around and soaking up the atmosphere, mainly walking through Market Row, Granville Arcade and Electric Avenue.3. What’s your interpretation of this year’s theme ‘Kaleidoscopes’? My interpretation is very much a visual one. Kaleidoscopes are beautiful ever-changing patterns that develop and grow without knowing what you are going to see next. I think that hugely describes Brixton. It is such a diverse place that is constantly changing. Every day I see new developments and the way things change but still fit together and work alongside each other.4. What book(s) are you currently reading? What’s it about? I’m reading a few! One is “Lean in” by Sheryl Sandberg which is a hugely motivational read that I would recommend to anyone. I’m also working my way through the new Gizzi Erskine “Healthy Eating” cookbook which is brilliant. I’ve just finished Lena Dunham’s “Not That Kind of Girl” which had me in stitches throughout and gave a whole new perspective on being a woman in her twenties!5. What’s your favourite TED talk? That opinion changes daily, I have the app so constantly have a look as to what kind of talk I’d like to listen to. One that really sticks out is from this year’s TED in Vancouver by David Eagleman which we screened at the Impact Hub in Brixton. It really opens your eyes to what science can do6. What’s your biggest highlight from last year’s TEDxBrixton event? I put forward Simon Parkes as someone to approach as a speaker for 2014 and seeing him on stage after weeks of developing his talk and being such a huge fan of his story and book was a very special moment, one I will remember for a very long time.

1. Tell us a bit about your background? I’m TEDxBrixton’s Project Manager. I spend most of my time getting everyone together, keeping everyone communicating and looking at how 2. everything fits together, big picture. As we’re a team of very busy volunteers who can’t always meet in person, I do my best to make sure everyone knows what’s going on around the team and everyone has lots of support.3. What’s your favourite thing to do in Brixton? I love exploring little, undiscovered bits of Brixton. Wondering around the little roads and alleys and taking in the sights, sounds and colours. I’m always stumbling upon awesome new spots such as Bookmongers book shop recently, now a firm favourite second hand book shop! One of my favourite things to do after a TEDx Brixton meeting is grab some lunch and sit in Windrush Square and watch the world go by.4. What’s your interpretation of this years’ theme ‘Kaleidoscopes’? To me, Kaleidoscope is about changing perceptions. You can look at the same thing from a number of different angles and get a new perspective, each as interesting, unique and beautiful as the last.5. What book(s) are you currently reading? What’s it about? As part of my book club (Rebel Book Club in London) I’m reading Doing Good Better by William Macaskill. Only just started it but it promises to be challenging book about making a difference in the world.6. What’s your favourite TED talk? So hard to pick just one! One of the shortest, most powerful talks I’ve seen recently is Drew Dudley – Leading with Lollipops. Such a great talk for showing us the impact we can have in the world.7. What’s your highlight from last year’s event? So many highlights, in particular Judy Claybourne’s talk stood out to me as fascinating, touching and eye opening.

1. Tell us a bit about your background? I’ve been working on the mobile app for TEDxBrixton ensuring that it’s launched ahead of the event. I’m also the Ticket Coordinator ensuring that tickets are distributed and allocated. The main part of my job will be at the actual event.2. What’s your favourite thing to do in Brixton? Eating! I love the Brixton Market and the wide range of food you can choose.3. What’s your interpretation of this years’ theme ‘Kaleidoscopes’? Something that is constantly changing but is still so colorful and amazing to look at. This is how I feel about Brixton and the people living in it.4. What book(s) are you currently reading? What’s it about? On Intelligence by Jeff Hawkins – a book about how our brain works and if it’s possible to build a machine with artificial intelligence. Very interesting!5. What’s your favourite TED talk? How great leaders inspire action –it’s about why we do things and allows us to better understand our decisions. I absolutely love it.
