Tell us a bit about your background? I’m a Creative Director at a global PR and integrated communications agency. I get to work across a broad range of industries; from sports to fashion, tech to travel. It’s always different, and there’s always a new challenge, which I love. I also lead the content team for TEDxBrixton.claire (1)What’s your favourite thing to do in Brixton? Eating and drinking! Without a doubt. We’re spoilt for choice here – so many amazing places. There are too many to list all my recommendations, but some of my favourites are Bukowski, Made of Dough, Mama Lan, and Chicken Liquor. Outside of The Village and Pop Brixton, I also like ThreeEightFour and Effra Social (they do a good pub quiz on a Tuesday). What’s your interpretation of this year’s theme ‘Kaleidoscopes’? For me it’s about constant evolution. About retaining beauty, despite an always changing form. What book(s) are you currently reading? What’s it about? Thrive by Arianna Huffington. She wrote the book after collapsing from exhaustion and severely injuring herself. It caused her to dramatically rethink her life, revaluating the choices she was making. Her book is neat summary of this reflection. What’s your favourite TED talk? I love a lot of the iconic talks such as Do Schools Kill Creativity? by Sir Ken Robinson and How I held my breath for 17 minutes by David Blaine. One of my personal favourites is How Sampling Transformed Music by Mark Ronson.

Tell us a bit about your background? I’m a researcher and news writer for a legal magazine. I also write music and pursue other business ventures in my spare time. For TEDxBrixton, I write the blog/online content.image1What’s your favourite thing to do in Brixton? I’m not from Brixton but when I’m in the area, I buy music from the local music stores and there are loads of great places to eat which is awesome. What’s your interpretation of this year’s theme ‘Kaleidoscopes’? Multifaceted people with interchanging experiences. What book(s) are you currently reading? What’s it about? I am currently reading ‘US’ by David Nicholls. It’s a funny, sad and tender tale of man trying to save his marriage. It details a thoughts, emotions, highs, lows, failures and disappointments of the journey of marriage and family life and includes brilliant observations about life, art and culture. What’s your favourite TED talk? I have a few faves but ‘Own your body’s Data’ by Talithia Williams was the very first TED talk I watched and I was hooked from then. It really opened my eyes about getting to really know the body that I’ve been living in all this time!

the organisation is keen on supporting people between the ages of 16-25 who are not in education or employment and have a passion to learn business and design skills. “Being [based] in Brixton Village has enabled us to provide retail, design and printing lessons to youths in Lambeth. This gives them the opportunity to be at the forefront of the regeneration process which is currently taking place in Brixton.”

HustleBucks has a unique focus in that not only does it cater for the socially conscious fashion lover

Virginia was at the tail end of her master’s degree in Industrial Design Engineering at London’s Royal College of Art.

When asked about what advice she’d give to entrepreneurs, she sums it up in three simple points: “work with a great team, believe in what you do and don’t stress!!”
