My intent was to build a coffee table for my living room, as my current coffee table had a lovely 70's flair to it that I wasn't exactly fond of. The first task at hand was to decide what I would use for the table legs. I noticed that the 3 stringers (the pieces of wood that support the deck boards) had arches cut in them, this were used to accommodate the forklift in its previous life. I found these stringers to be perfect for the legs as they are sturdy and the arch cut into them would provide a decorative look. I cut the stringers right down the middle of the arches and was able to get 4 identical pieces that I could use for the legs. How I Made 100 Dollars in a Few Hours From a Free Wooden Pallet
Lately I've been dabbling in wood working. I'm certainly no expert at it but I actually find it relaxing and it brought out a creative side of me I didn't even know existed. A few weeks ago I purchased 70 bags of topsoil for what I hope turns out to be a garden at some point in the future. They were delivered on a standard 40 x 48 inch wooden pallet. From the look of it, this pallet has had its fair share of use. As I stood there in my garage looking at this worn and weathered pallet, I noticed a sense of beauty about its rusted nails and abused gray wood. I pondered what the story was behind it and how many adventures it had been on. So what did I do? I started to dismantle it with a pry bar and a hammer so I could use it to burn in the backyard fire pit I had recently finished. After I had finished taking it apart, it laid on my garage floor in pieces and I suddenly had an idea, I don't know why or what had prompted it, but for some reason I thought to myself "Hey, that would make a neat looking coffee table."

Hardscaping doesn't stop there, however many hardscape design professionals will also readily draw up plans for a patio, a barbeque pit, a deck, walkways, decorative retaining walls, exotic fences and gains, and even artistic sculptures as well! The applications of hardscape design are as varied and beautiful as any live garden -- just more permanent. But don't think that hard means large -- hardscapers will just as readily put together small details in an otherwise 'soft' environment. For example, having a Japanese-style concrete lantern or a copper Foo dog set up to grace your backyard is right up a hardscapers alley.
If you begin with the landscaping, the hardscaping itself -- which can be fairly intensive- labor and equipment wise -- can damage the plants and soft terrain. For this reason, starting with the hardscaping is usually wiser.

As stated previously, grey often conjures up a masculine type room, but with the use of shape, motifs and contrasting colours, you can even create a bedroom fit for a boutique hotel. One of the key pieces is sleek bedroom furniture, with wardrobes and drawers all matching, they must always be in either a lighter colour or darker colour than the grey you are using.

Once you have a budget and have decided on your venue, then settle on a date and do it early. You will be competing with lots of other parties this time of year and by getting yours on the calendar first you will avoid conflicts. Next decide on invitations. You can order them online or buy them in the stores. However to save money, you can make them yourself on the computer. There are numerous invitation products available in office supply stores that will give you templates to make your own. Be creative... add graduation clipart, a logo from the college or high school of your graduate or even inset a photo! Unless you have room in your house or are having it off site, ALWAYS plan a rain date. Also make sure you have an RSVP with a date deadline and add your email as well as your phone number. A 'regrets only" RSVP system makes for tricky planning. Recently, I have even seen people use free online invitation services.
Having four children who graduated two years apart, I have been planning high school or college graduation parties for over a decade. The two most important pieces of advice I can offer is to set a budget and plan early. Figure out how much money you have to spend on your celebration. This is critical, as your budget will determine the number of guests you can have and the venue you will use to host your party. Many families have their parties out at restaurants, in halls or other locations. These will cost more money. With four who graduated within a 7-year span, we knew with our oldest that we couldn't set a precedent that we couldn't continue with the rest. So the idea of the "Backyard BBQ" took shape. It's easy, casual and relatively inexpensive. Plus the outdoor theme allows for a larger guest list for your graduate. Our kids invited their friends, fellow grads, teachers, coaches, and of course, all the family. We ran the graduation parties like an open house.

It saves time if the participants are all given a name tag to fill at the beginning of the meeting or party which they can stick onto their own goodie bag. Also if lots of different colors are used and children are allowed to choose their own it helps them locate their own later when things start getting more active.Goody Bags are Good Party Fun
Parties generate a lot of take home items and goodie bags are reasonable party expenditures because of this. The variety available allows for just the right goodie bags to match with just the right occasion.

What if some stone fire pit ideas could dramatically bring a lifeless, monotonous backyard into an area where your family and friends love to hang around and spend hours upon hours of barbecuing while enjoying pleasant conversations?
The good thing about having this pit in your backyard is the variety of purpose it serves - people are always amazed at the fire it produces - the flame to cook your marshmallows and steak, the warmth it brings to the chilly nights and the light it spreads to its surroundings.

8. Make your royal icing the day of the party. Royal icing is not something you want to make ahead of time when dealing with gingerbread houses. The longer it sits, the softer it becomes and doesn't do a good job of holding onto the candy. You can make it about an hour before your party, and then put it into the decorating bags. Just cover the tips with a damp towel to keep the icing from drying out.
